Women of WA
Women of WA is a leadership initiative dedicated to building a vibrant community and equipping the next generation of women driving the Western Australia–Japan relationship.
Founded by Melanie Brock AM and delivered by JA Network, the program empowers Australian and Japanese women to strengthen economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties between WA and Japan.
Designed for women at every stage of their professional journey — from established executives to those exploring new opportunities — the program focuses on participants working across sectors central to the WA–Japan partnership. These include energy, infrastructure, defence, advanced technology, agriculture, and sustainability solutions, as well as women from WA currently working in Japan or around the world.
At the heart of Women of WA are annual study tours, alternating between Western Australia and Japan. These immersive experiences blend professional development, cross-cultural exchange, and skills training. Participants explore leadership and governance, sector-specific knowledge, diplomacy, and communication, while gaining first-hand insight into the business, policy, and cultural landscapes shaping bilateral relations.
Beyond its tours and training, Women of WA is a dynamic network built on connection and purpose.
Participants benefit from mentorship and sponsorship opportunities, peer-to-peer learning, and an active alumni community designed to foster ongoing collaboration and support long after the program concludes.
Strategic partnerships with government, academia, and the private sector enhance the program’s reach and impact. By connecting women with entrepreneurs, policy leaders, global organisations, and social enterprises, Women of WA creates a powerful platform for leadership, innovation, and enduring cooperation between Western Australia and Japan.
