After graduating from Osaka University Faculty of Medicine, Yu worked in orthopedic clinical settings at institutions such as the International Cancer Center and Osaka Minami Medical Center. After completing his doctoral program at the same university, he served as a Spine Fellow at Weill Cornell Medicine / AO Spine North America in the United States. From 2022, he has been a specially appointed Associate professor at the Center for Global Health, Osaka University Hospital. He is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and holds a Doctor of Medicine degree. 

大阪大学医学部卒業後、国際がんセンター、大阪南医療センターなどで整形外科臨床に従事。同学大学院博士課程修了後に米国Weill Cornell Medicine / AO Spine North AmericaにおいてSpine Fellowとして勤務。2022年より大阪大学医学部附属病院 未来医療開発部国際医療センター特任講師。整形外科専門医・医学博士。
